About this app

Disconnect from your phone in order to reconnect with yourself, others, and the world. Start your challenge today!

Are you always on your phone? Do you live with a constant fear of missing out? Do you panic when you have no signal? It’s time for a detox. You can do this. We’re here to help.

Features:
⚫ Limited access to your phone during the challenge
⚫ Multiple difficulty levels with built-in accountability
⚫ Scheduling and whitelisting capabilities
⚫ Achievements and leader board at Play Games

Warning: XioaMi phones requires a special permission in order to open whitelisted apps. Please follow our guide here: https://team.urbandroid.org/ddc-fix-whitelisted-apps-on-xiaomi/

Automation

To start detox automatically from Tasker or similar:
- broadcast
- package: com.urbandroid.ddc
- action: com.urbandroid.ddc.START_DETOX
- time_extra: number of minutes

Example:
adb shell am broadcast --el time_extra 60000 -a com.urbandroid.ddc.START_DETOX

Accessibility Service

In order to effectively block you from using the addictive and distracting apps the "Digital Detox" app may ask you to enable its Accessibility Service if you decide to use the cheating protection features. We use this service only to block you from leaving an ongoing Detox without paying an accountability fee or using a quit code (the cheating). We do not use the service to collect any personal information.

See how the use of Accessibility Service works in Digital Detox:

Device Admin

If granted by the user, "Digital Detox" app may use the Device Administrator permission to (and only to) prevent users from cheating - make uninstalling of the app during an active Detox harder.

I use this to stop myself from playing one particular game. I'd like to be able to block that one game, rather than white list everything else, which is the only solution now. The other issue is that the digital detox screen comes up when you try to toggle between two (white listed) open apps. The only solution right now is to "reopen" the app to bring it back to the foreground. This despite the app already being open in the background. Otherwise quite good.

Hello Duane, we cannot allow "Recent apps" screen for you to switch between apps, because users misuse this screen to terminate the challenge. Hope it makes sense.

This app is changing my life, not exaggerating. ADHD+phone addiction has made my brain a mess of a place, and I've been desperate to find a way to train myself to focus and actually be present to my family again. I needed a way to block my access to the chrome app while still being able to use my phone for text messages, phone calls, calculator and calendar, etc. This delivers that with a great visual interface, easy to use, doesn't collect your data, and it's free - what a gift 😭💜 thank you!!

The app has been really great so far, however it won't let me use apps that I've already allowed during detox and it's been a major inconvenience. I'll open Firefox or Maps and it just suddenly closes out and blocks me from using them again. I still use my phone as a tool and I need it for work, so it's been very annoying when I have to use an emergency use just to access an app I've already allowed. Does it have anything to do with blocking the notification tray? I'd rate 5 stars if resolved.

UPDATE: Hello Kayla, can you please use menu > report a bug or if you are in middle of a detox go to Quit > Scroll down > Report a bug? ideally when the issue occurs. We will investigate the issue. Are you using time limits on apps? For details please contact support@urbandroid.org. Petr Nalevka CEO @ Urbandroid
